A SHOP worker was assaulted with a “lump of wood” during a daytime robbery at a Bournemouth convenience store.

Police rushed to the Best One convenience store in Windham Road, Springbourne, after reports of the attack at 2.20pm on Sunday.

Officers say the assailant entered the shop before assaulting a staff member with a lump of wood.

After taking cash from the till and leaving his victim with head injuries, he was then seen making his getaway along nearby Clevedon Road towards Holdenhurst Road.

Residents said that officers accompanied with sniffer dog units could be seen going through bins.

Three police cars remained outside the store for much of the afternoon as officers made enquiries to establish the chain of events and launched an investigation.

The shop’s shutters were then shut and customers were advised by police officers that it would be closed for the remainder of the day.
