Doing this job means that I see hundreds of bands covering just about every genre of music there is.

I have lost count of the actual numbers and probably forgotten a fair few of their names but what I can say is that this is always one of my favorite nights of the year.

Paul Carrack is widely recognized as one of the outstanding singer/songwriter/musicians of his generation and I'm sure that everyone in the Pavilion tonight would agree that is a well-deserved accolade.

Sharing the stage were a six-piece band that are individually masters of their craft and who come together to provide the perfect foil to Paul's delivery of songs both old and new.

The set list was a combination of tracks from the new album Soul Shadows and songs from across a career that has taken in Ace (How Long), Squeeze (Another Cup of Coffee, Mike & The Mechanics (Living Years), a tribute to Glen Frey and of course a wide body of solo work.

The sound and lighting were just right and by the end of the night the crowd was on its feet and singing along to every word.

If it sounds as though I work for Paul Carrack Inc. or that I have overdone the praise I assure you I have not.

This was a beautiful night full of a voice and songs that can touch your soul.
