A MAN has been airlifted to hospital with serious spinal injuries after falling down a six-metre well.
Emergency services were called to Sixpenny Handley, a village in East Dorset, at 12.27pm.
Dorset Fire and Rescue Service used specialist equipment to lower a medic into the well so pain relief could be administered, before successfully winching the casualty to ground level.
South Western Ambulance sent a Hazardous Area Response Team to assist with the operation.
At 3pm an air ambulance took the man to Southampton General Hospital.
A South Western Ambulance Service spokesman said the man sustained “serious spinal injuries”.
His condition is not thought to be life-threatening, the spokesman added.
