A band is heavy rain is set to sweep across Dorset on Wednesday, the Met Office is warning.

A yellow 'be aware' alert has been issued and is valid from 3am on Wednesday morning until 6pm.

Bournemouth Echo:

The Met Office says some localised flooding is possible with southwesterly gales "likely" along south coasts for a time.

They have also said there is a potential for local travel disruption due to flooding and some difficult driving conditions.

Severe weather warnings have also been issued for Wales, north west England and the west of Scotland as the remnants of the US snow storm head across the Atlantic.

The Chief Forecaster said: "A frontal zone will move southeastwards across southern England through Wednesday before clearing away later in the day.

"This will bring some persistent rain to many areas, and as it clears, some locally intense rainfall is possible.

"Accumulations of 20 mm are expected fairly widely with locally 40 mm possible in some spots, although some places will miss the worst of the rain.

"There remains some uncertainty regarding the timing of the heaviest rain and so this warning will be kept under review."
