A CONSULTATION into the future management of Talbot Village has been launched by the council.

Residents are being invited to comment on a draft appraisal and management plan for the conservation area, aimed at preserving its key historic features.

The plan has been developed with contributions from heritage experts and is being consulted on until February 29. You can view it online by clicking the link below.

The vision for Talbot Heath outlined in the document says the area "will be maintained as a model village that continues to nurture the under privileged and disadvantaged within an inspiring, safe and beautiful environment".

It says this will be achieved through "21st century interventions which enable the preservation and enhancement of the village's unique heritage and natural setting".

Proposals in the plan include using the woodland for camping for children and youth groups, introducing heritage trails and a community garden to promote self sufficiency with potential to link up with local restaurants.

A need to establish a "primary north-south route" through the woods from Slade's Farm for cyclists with the potential to introduce lighting to improve safety is also mentioned.

There are also plans to provide additional parking, explore road improvement schemes and improve the gateway entrance to the conservation area for pedestrians and cyclists.

Changes are also being considered to improve the management of traffic at St Mark’s School during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.

There is already a masterplan for Poole's side of Talbot Village, which includes the creation of a digital village, new university buildings and transport improvements

Cllr David Smith, cabinet member for planning and environment, said: “The Talbot Village conservation area is an important and unique part of Bournemouth.

“This draft appraisal and management plan covers the conservation area’s capacity for change and suggests a proactive approach to preserving and enhancing this part of the town.

“Through this consultation we would like to understand what local stakeholders and the wider public think about the issues, constraints and opportunities in the area.

“I would encourage interested residents to take this opportunity and comment on the draft plans.”
