A WORLD record attempt with a difference will be held to mark 10 years since the formation of the Steve Bernard Foundation.

Beachgoers planning to enjoy a romantic stroll along the prom on Valentine's Day may be in for a surprise when they bump into hundreds of Peter Pans.

The foundation is urging supporters to dress up as the popular Disney character to gain entry into the Guinness World Records as well as raising money to support young people.

The character has been chosen because Steve Bernard dressed up as Peter Pan for a fun night out just days before his tragic death more than 10 years ago.

Steve was just 18 when he and three friends were killed in a car crash shortly after starting a sports course at Chichester University.

The former Bournemouth School student and sports enthusiast was very popular and scores of events have been held in his memory.

More than £250,000 has been raised and sporting projects both locally and worldwide have received funding.

The latest event, to be held on Sunday February 14, will be the Peter Pan fun run and sponsored walk on the day that would have been Steve's 29th birthday.

Hundreds are expected to take part in the event, from Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe pier and back, and organisers hope to beat the current record of 280 Peter Pans.

World record attempts have strict rules and all those taking part must wear a green tunic, brown or green leggings or tights, a brown belt, a pointed hat and should carry a toy sword.

Registration opens at Bournemouth's Pier Approach at 11.30am and runners and walkers setting off at 1pm.

Entry costs £10 per person and £5 for children and entry forms can be found at stevebernardfoundation.com/fun-run or just turn up on the day.

"Everything which has been achieved has been guided by Steve's memory and an incredible passion for sport. We love what we do and we would love for you to join us on our journey" said Steve's dad, Tony.
