A PRIMARY school is celebrating after being one of the first schools in Bournemouth to install life-saving heart equipment.

Staff, parents and sponsors gathered at Muscliff Primary School to celebrate the new automated external defibrillator – one of just a few in the area.

It was formally presented by Mark King, of the Oliver King Foundation.

The charity was set up by Mr King following the death of his 12-year-old son, who had an undiagnosed cardiac condition.

Mr King believes Oliver could have been saved, had he had access to such equipment.

It was funded by the Bournemouth North Rotary Club, Westover Group and fundraising from members of the Muscliff Parents’ Association.

Linda Bedford, of the Muscliff Parents’ Association, said: “The school felt that it was imperative to have this life-saving device on site to not only possibly save the life of a child, but also members of staff, parents, carers, visitors and general members of the public.

“With kind donations from the Bournemouth North Rotary Club and Westover Group, together with funds raised by the Muscliff Parents’ Association the device has been installed within the school and staff trained.”

Anyone interested in installing their own defibrillator is asked to contact Kate Fisher, of the South Western Ambulance Service, on 07973 963530.
