- The road has been closed between Leslie Road and Withermoor Road
- Shops and businesses have been evacuated
- Residents and businesses have since been told it is safe to return to their properties
- Cardigan Road will remain cordoned off at its junction with Wimborne Road while repairs are carried out to the gas main
