HOSPICE fundraisers are urging supporters across Dorset to don their festive jumpers as part of a Christmas charity drive.

Lewis-Manning Hospice's Christmas Jumper Day, set for December 1, aims to 'bring a bit joy to the office or home' by getting people to wear their best - or worst - knitwear to help raise vital hospice funds.

Paul Tucker, hospice marketing and communications officer, said: "Novelty Christmas jumpers seem to have grown in popularity with many outlets now stocking an array of fashionable designs.

"Although there still seems to be plenty of love for a really naff jumper."

The event is aimed at getting everyone into the Christmas spirit by donning festive attire for the day, with each participant making a donation to the hospice charity.

Lewis-Manning Hospice, Poole, give free care and support to more than 700 local people a year living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.

Mr Tucker said: "We thought this would be a good fun way to raise some money for the hospice and we are particularly keen for businesses to get involved, so they can do it in larger groups and help encourage each other to wear their jumpers for the day and have a bit of fun for a good cause.

"Last year we had great support from local businesses such as Jobshop UK, Laceys Solicitors, Barclays, Borough of Poole, Westbeach Business Breakfast and Leader & Co Estate Agents."

The hospice is also hosting a charity quiz at The Brit pub in Ashley Cross on the evening of December 1, from 8pm, hosted by Hot Radio presenter Geoff Carter.

Tickets are £10 per person, which includes a burger & chips supper, with a choice of steak, chicken or vegetarian.

There will be a raffle and various prizes, including prize for the best Christmas jumper.

To get involved simply wear your Christmas Jumper on December 1st and text LMHC15 (followed by the amount e.g £5) to 70070 to donate.
