DR Martin Rodger asks (Nov 18) what EU regulation has resulted in our expensive and unreliable electricity supply.
The relevant directive, as regards coal-fired plant, is the Large Combustion Plant Directive of 2001.
A quarter of total generating capacity is unable to comply with sulphur emission reductions and is required to close by the end of 2015.
It is interesting to note that crops in Britain are now short of sulphur, which they used to get for free from the air.
