THE Upton Bypass was closed after an Audi A4 overturned near Holes Bay on Wednesday night.

Emergency services were called to the road by a motorist at 8.42pm, discovering the car had been involved in a single-vehicle crash.

A man suffering from injuries to his legs and abdomen was rescued from the car.

Initially, it was believed that the driver had run off, and the NPAS helicopter was called to search for him.

However, it is now reported that the man rescued was the only person inside the vehicle at the time of the collision.

It is not believed he suffered life-threatening injuries.

However, he was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Firefighters were called to the scene, but the man did not need to be cut free from the wreckage of the vehicle.

A spokesperson from Dorset Police said: "Officers were called to the bypass at 8.42pm after receiving a call from a passing motorist.

"The road had been blocked by a car that was in a collision near the fire station, and officers closed the road from the Bakers Arms.

"Motorists used the Creekmoor slip to leave the carriageway."

A spokesperson from South Western Ambulance Service said paramedics treated the male occupant of an overturned car.

He had sustained injuries to his abdomen and legs and was taken to Poole Hospital.

No arrests have been made.

The road was reopened around 9.40pm.
