THE winners of the Daily Echo and Castle Cameras Bournemouth Air Festival photographic competition have received their prizes.

More than 400 entries were submitted for the annual contest, which this year asked entrants to capture the spirit and atmosphere of the event.

The winner in the adult category is Guy Wood, 26, from Boscombe.

Guy actually won the contest in 2013 – the judges, Rachael Tattum and Brian Callow from Castle Cameras, had no idea that the picture they had chosen as the winner this year had been taken by him.

His picture of fireworks from the cliff top caught their attention, but he almost never submitted it.

Guy said: “I spent a lot of time choosing from my pictures and wasn’t sure whether to go with one that didn’t have planes in.

"It was quite stressful working out which one to submit as I had eight panoramas and I was debating right up until the deadline which one that I was going to send in.

"In the end I was drawn to the firework shot, it ticked all the boxes.

“Winning it in 2013 made me want to be a professional photographer and I’ve done a lot since then and to win again is excellent.”

Racheal said: “The adults are always more challenging. It was nice not to just see planes in the sky. There are two people sat on the cliff (in the winning photo) and that caught our eye.”

Guy takes the adult prize of £300 worth of Castle Cameras vouchers.

The judges’ choice in the junior category was Lewis Inman, 16, from Poole.

His picture of his younger sister, Ruby, wearing ear defenders, with the crowds reflected in her sunglasses, was chosen out of all the entries.

Lewis, who attends St Edward’s School, said: “My dad saw the competition and said that I got a good photo this year and I entered on the off chance.

“I go to the festival every year and I’m doing A-level photography, so I thought it would be good experience.”

Lewis wins a Canon Powershot SX410 IS camera.
