WHEN it comes to our pets most of us are willing to go above and beyond in order to help them - and supermarket worker Jeanette Parker is doing just that in order to save her beloved Labrador puppy Marley.

Ten-month-old Marley has only been with Jeanette and her daughter Jay for a couple of months but the pair are determined to raise the £2,600 needed to give him the operation he so desperately needs.

Jeanette, 52, found Marley for sale on trading website Gumtree in September, after being talked into getting a dog by her 18-year-old daughter Jay.

"She was desperate for a dog so I finally gave in and said the minute we found one we loved we would get it," said Jeanette, who lives in Ensbury Park.

"We saw Marley for sale online and fell in love instantly.

"When we went to pick him up we noticed he had a slight limp but the current owners assured us their vet had said he would be fine."

Sadly this was not the case and after taking little Marley to her Vets4Pets in Winton for a once over it was discovered he had elbow dysplasia and was in urgent need of an operation which would cost £2,600.

A spokesman for the vets in Victoria Park Place said because of the severity of Marley's elbow dysplasia it was recommended that he visit a specialist veterinary clinic for an operation to fix the problem.

"We were told that because his case is so severe he has to go to Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists in Winchester for the operation which won’t be covered by our insurance,” added Jeanette.

“It was quite a shock especially when we discovered the previous owners knew about Marley’s condition and put him up for sale.

“We now can’t imagine life without him and are determined to raise the money so that he can have the operation and continue life as a normal happy puppy.”

The duo have already raised an amazing £800 thanks to cake sales and a raffle but they still have a long way to go.

“We are just urging people to help us get Marley better and have the operation so that he can go on those long walks he desperately needs,” added Jeanette.

“At the moment he is just stuck at home and is going a bit stir crazy as a result.

“It’s no life for a puppy with loads of energy.”
