KIND-hearted children transformed their East Dorset school into a bakery to raise money for Syrian refugees last week.

With the help of their parents and teachers, pupils at Witchampton First School held a 'cake and bake sale' in aid of Save the Children's 'children of Syria' appeal.

Headmistress Melanie Whittick said the youngsters had been moved by the plight of those living in the war torn country, where five million children are in need of help.

"As parents and teachers, we were trying to find the answers to a lot of difficult questions from the children," Mrs Whittick said.

The head gave a poignant assembly, which inspired Witchampton pupils and their parents to help.

Youngsters made a donation for wearing mufti to school and then sold their homemade creations to parents and villagers.

And in total, their hard work paid off when they manage to raise £292, all of which will go towards life-saving food baskets, education, health services, clean water, warm clothes and support for traumatised children.
