A NEW FOREST mum who is taking part in the Bournemouth Marathon Festival next month is hoping to set a new world record.

Alice Burch, 33, will attempt to run 60 marathons in 60 days from October 1. The current world record is 53 consecutive marathons.

Running in aid of animal charity SPANA, Alice will be aiming for her fastest marathon time in Bournemouth on Sunday October 4 as part of her epic challenge.

SPANA is dedicated to helping the cause of working animals – such as donkeys – that are subject to poor conditions in poverty-stricken parts of the world.

Alice said: “I love running and believe in the charity work of SPANA. I first became aware of its existence when a very close friend was killed suddenly in January 2014 and his wonderful mum, Lorna Robins, requested that the monies collected was donated to this charity.

“A World Record has been on my bucket list for a long time so what better way to try and smash one and raise monies and general awareness of working animals and the vital help that is needed. I truly believe that knowledge makes a huge difference. If you do not have money to give, I will try and encourage those to try and make a difference.”

Alice will run with clubs across the UK with a new route each day.

The Bournemouth Marathon Festival is one of the few official races she has chosen.

The marathon is one of six events taking place on October 3-4 as part of Bournemouth Marathon Festival weekend.
