THE winners have been announced in the Daily Echo and Castle Cameras Bournemouth Air Festival photographic competition.

More than 400 entries were submitted for the annual contest, which this year asked entrants to capture the spirit and atmosphere of the event, leaving the judges with a tough job.

The winner in the adult category is Guy Wood, 26, from Boscombe.

Guy actually won the contest in 2013 – the judges, Rachael Tattum and Brian Callow from Castle Cameras, had no idea that the picture they had chosen as the winner this year had been taken by him.

His picture of fireworks from the cliff top caught the judges’ attention.

Guy said: “I spent a lot of time choosing from the pictures and wasn’t sure whether to go with one that didn’t have planes in.

“I’m well chuffed. Winning it is more important than the prize this time.

“Winning it in 2013 made me want to be a professional photographer and I’ve done a lot since then and to win again is excellent.”

Racheal said: “The adults are always more challenging. It was nice not to just see planes in the sky. There are two people sat on the cliff (in the winning photo) and that caught our eye.”

Brian added: “The winner has got a really atmospheric shot.”

Guy takes the adult prize of £300 worth of Castle Cameras vouchers.

The judges’ choice in the junior category was Lewis Inman, 16, from Poole.

Bournemouth Echo:

His picture of a girl wearing ear defenders, with the crowds reflected in her sunglasses, was chosen out of all the entries.

Lewis, who goes to St Edward’s School, said: “My dad saw the competition and said that I got a good photo this year and I entered on the off chance.

“I go to the festival every year and I’m doing A-level photography, so I thought it would be good experience.”

Racheal added: “The children’s standard was very high and took on board the spirit of the festival.”

Brian said: “It’s a well-executed photo that captured the spirit that makes Bournemouth Air Festival such a special event.”

Lewis wins a Canon Powershot SX410 IS camera.
