THE MAYOR of Bournemouth officially opened an event in Boscombe which aimed to celebrate the different cultures within the town.

Cllr John Adams attended the It's All About Culture Mosaic Summer Barbecue family fun day organised by a community-led, grass roots organisation started in 2013, which took place in Churchill Gardens.

Funding for the event came from the Red Nose Day Community Cash Fund, which is part of Comic Relief and is managed by the Dorset Community Foundation, based on St Peter's Road in Bournemouth.

Entertainment at the free entry day included stalls, food, dancing and live music by Afro Tallawah, DJ Shaker Selecta, David Torres Mora and Jason Hinchey. It was put together by people who live, work and volunteer in the area and featured community groups and charities, such as the UK Nepali Friendship Society, Healthwatch Dorset and Fairtrade Bournemouth.

Tracy Melling, chief executive at the Dorset Community Foundation, said: "We are really pleased to have supported the multicultural event in partnership with Red Nose Day Community Cash.

"It brought together representatives from different cultures and the barbecue and music programme celebrated the positive understanding of them and how they are part of the local community."

Dorset Community Foundation is one of the biggest funders in the county, having distributed over £1million to over 345 local groups and individuals over the past two years.

The Foundation manages funds on the behalf of organisations such as Red Nose Day and local individuals and companies that would like to give back to their communities.
