THE RSPB is asking people to sleep outside this weekend to get closer to nature as part of its Big Wild Sleepout event.

The event, on August 7 and 8, is designed to encourage children and families reconnect with the natural world, and be inspired to help protect it.

Be it in hand-built dens, tents, or sleeping bags under the stars, hundreds of people across the county have already signed up to experience the wonders of nocturnal nature – including at the RSPB’s guided sleepout at their Arne Nature Reserve.

Places are still available on the Arne Big Wild Sleepout on Saturday, August 8. Visit the events tab of: www.facebook.com/RSPBSW for more info and to book.

And among the famous names supporting the event are Zoë Ball, Emilia Fox and Bill Oddie and Alison Steadman who have recorded bedtime stories for those taking part, available via the RSPB’s website.

Morwenna Alldis of the RSPB said: “Some of our best loved garden favourites are among the creatures shown to be in serious trouble and by taking part in this fun outdoor activity; we’re making the nation aware that nature needs our help.”
