THE team behind a major student accommodation block in Bournemouth have earned two awards.

The trophies are among a trio earned by Morgan Sindall PLC for projects in the South West.

Morgan Sindall’s £18m student accommodation project at Madeira Road in Bournemouth picked won a prize at the CIOB Constructing Excellence South West Awards.

The Integration and Collaborative Working Award recognised the collaboration between Bournemouth Borough Council, Arts University Bournemouth and Morgan Sindall Investments Ltd (MSIL).

The accommodation was built for Bournemouth Development Company, a public-private partnership between Bournemouth Borough Council and MSIL. The project is part of the £40m Town Centre Vision regeneration scheme.

Morgan Sindall is delivering key works worth £27m as part of the wider scheme.

Its blocks at Madeira Road, which range from four to seven storeys, house 378 students of the Arts University Bournemouth.

The scheme was also named best public service building at the Local Authority Building Control Awards.

Those awards also Morgan Sindall collect another prize, for the £9.5m Millwater Special School in East Budleigh, Devon.

That project involved relocating the school from Honiton to new premises on the site of Bicton College. The 100-pupil school was re-built to provide more space for educational and recreational facilities.

Ian Cheung, managing director of Construction South and West at Morgan Sindall, said: “It is great that the work being undertaken in the region is being recognised.

“The awarded projects exemplify the innovative and collaborative approach Morgan Sindall takes to its projects and we are delighted to have been acknowledged by our peers.”

Other major regional projects for the company include an £8.3m contract for new car storage and handling facilities at the Port of Southampton.
