THE grieving mum of a Bournemouth soldier killed in Afghanistan is taking part in a skydive to raise money for a forces charity.

Andrea Johnson admits to being "terrified" but said she is thrilled to be helping Forces Support.

Her son, 19-year-old Jonathon Allott, died in an explosion in March 2010 and his family has since been supported by the charity.

The skydive will take place in Salisbury on Saturday August 8.

"The amazing work they do for bereaved families of fallen soldiers has touched my heart and so to give something back to them I've decided to raise money for the charity in memory of Jonathon so they will be able to help another bereaved family" said Andrea.

"Jonathon always wanted to do a skydive when he returned home from Afghanistan but sadly that never happened so I've decided to do one for him."

Former Kings High school pupil Jonathon, known as Jonny, was one of the soldiers whose bodies were escorted through the town of Wootton Bassett on repatriation to the UK.

This weekend, Andrea met up with the former policeman who arranged the processions from RAF Lyneham, through Wootton Bassett and onwards to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Jarra Brown was awarded the MBE for his efforts, which saw 345 members of the British forces repatriated in 168 different operations.

Jonny was one of five soldiers whose bodies were repatriated together, creating a procession of hearses through the small Wiltshire town.

"At the time it was just a blur but when I look back on it, it was wonderful thing that they did in Wootton Bassett" said Andrea.

"The public was so supportive - it feels like yesterday."

Andrea, who lives in Kinson, also told how another of her sons, 20-year-old Daniel, has joined the Army and is currently serving in Kenya.

Jarra, now retired from the police, has written a book, called 46 miles - the distance from RAF Lyneham to the John Radcliffe.

Jonny is featured in the book, which is also raising money for charity.
