WITH regards to Mr Adams’ letter (Shame on Poole for denying young gardeners, July 30), the awards he was referring to were Bournemouth in Bloom, making Poole schools ineligible to enter.
In Poole we are very committed to developing the skills of our young people and actively encourage schools to take part in our Schools’ Environment Award.
This award focuses on six key themes including the natural world, reducing waste and celebrating your achievements. Schools can work towards, bronze, silver and gold awards, providing a great opportunity for children to develop their knowledge of the environment in a fun way.
Both children and the environment are vital for our future, and schools are the best places to lead a real change in the environmental behaviour of the present and future society.
Cllr John Rampton
Portfolio Holder for Environment and Consumer Protection, Borough of Poole
