A PENSIONER is due to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court next week charged with causing death by careless driving.

Janet Chapman, 68, of Florence Road in Boscombe, has not yet entered a plea to the charge, which comes more than a year after the death of Mary Wallwork in Poole.

The 83-year-old pedestrian died after she was involved in a collision with a white Renault Megane at 7.45pm on February 19, 2014, in Herbert Avenue.

An inquest heard that Mrs Wallwork, of Ralph Jessop Court, Wyvern Road, Poole died of head injuries.

The collision took place near the junction with Stanfield Avenue and opposite the Tesco Express.

Police closed the road between Sark Road and Arne Avenue for around three hours in order to investigate the scene.

Mrs Wallwork was treated by paramedics, who administered first aid immediately.

She was then rushed to Poole Hospital, where she died of her injuries.

Following the incident, police appealed for witnesses to come forward, and Sergeant Nikki Burt, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “In particular I would like to speak with two people who spoke to a member of staff at the Tesco Express store immediately after the collision.

"I believe they may be witnesses and can help us ascertain exactly what happened."

Chapman is to appear before a judge on August 3 for a preliminary hearing.
