DOG lover Trevor Bowey has warned others to be on their guard after his pet was viciously attacked by two large dogs on Queens Park golf course in Bournemouth.

Gentle Labrador Harvey suffered puncture wounds after being set upon by the animals, described as Bulldog-type dogs on Sunday night.

Mr Bowey said he was walking near the 18th hole at about 7pm when he saw a man in a high-visibility vest in the distance.

The man was with the two large, brown and white dogs and also had a dark grey Staffie pup with him.

"Harvey is very inquisitive so he went towards them" said Mr Bowey, who lives nearby.

"One of the dogs just launched itself at him and pinned him to the ground.

"I was in such a panic I could hardly get my breath and Harvey was just yelping. Somehow he managed to get away from the first dog, then the other one attacked him.

"The most annoying thing was that the man didn't do anything to stop the dogs and at one point he accused Harvey of attacking his dogs, which is ridiculous."

Mr Bowey said even the puppy attempted to join in the fight.

He said he and Harvey managed to get away from the large dogs and the owner finally put them on leads before walking to the woods.

"I asked him for his personal details but he refused to give them to me and just walked off," added Mr Bowey.

"He had a really bad attitude and I dread to think what would have happened if it had been a smaller dog or even a child. People with dogs should keep them under control."

The incident has been reported to the police and to the dog warden.
