HAVE you ever wondered what would happen if planet Earth's most fearsome heavyweight war machines faced off against the scourge of the universe?

If so, then Bovington's Tank Museum was the place to be.

More than 2,500 people braved the rain to watch an army of Daleks, the arch enemies of Doctor Who, swarm the museum grounds.

The action took place amid some of the finest examples of restored fighting vehicles in the world.

Roz Skellorn, of the Tank Museum, explained: "The Tank Museum's Dalek event included Daleks roaming around the museum with the United Intelligence Taskforce (U.N.I.T) in hot pursuit.

"There were appearances from Doctor Who personalities who were involved in the making of this iconic series, as well as sci-fi stalls and visitors dressed up as their favourite characters."

The Dalek Day, held on Sunday, was part of the museum's summer events programme.

Tanks in Action displays are taking place every weekday, which include a number of historic fighting vehicles roaring around the arena track accompanied by commentary and explosions.

Talks, tours and trails are also available every day.

A museum spokesman said: "The Tank Museum holds the national collection of tanks and brings the story of tanks and tank crews to life.

"Housing the world's most historically significant collection of tanks, the museum tells the story of this British invention from World War One to the present day in five powerful exhibitions.

"As you explore the museum's six large halls, you will come face-to-face with vehicles that have seen action in the wars of the 20th century and hear first-hand accounts from those that fought in them."
