A GROUP of 60 avid anglers raised £650 at a charity fishing event at Cobb’s Quay Marina in Poole.

The seventh annual Open Species Fishing Competition on June 27 raised money for Heroes on the Water, a UK charity which offers kayak angling to aid rehabilitation of wounded heroes injured while carrying out a public duty.

For the second year running Cobb’s Quay Marina teamed up with the Poole Bay Small Boat Angling Club and the competition saw 19 boats out on the water, reeling in, photographing and then releasing as many species of fish as possible. The winning team photographed an impressive 21 species aboard their boat 'Kingfisher.'

The event is run annually by marina manager Dave Wilson, who said: “The Cobb’s Quay fishing competition is always a great day out on the water and everyone really enjoys taking part. It was brilliant to once again have the support of the Poole Bay Small Boat Angling Club, and we are delighted to have raised over £650 for such a brilliant cause.”
