I BELONG to the large group of people who you might describe as the silent supporters of the proposed Navitus Bay wind farm.

I say this as I have discovered on numerous occasions when discussing this proposal with friends and colleagues, the number of people who either support or have no opinion on the subject seem to far outweigh those who loudly object.

The reason I have broken my silence relates to the latest letter from Bill Hoodless, who casually dismisses the projected local employment figures stated by the developers and then produces his organisation’s own figures relating to potential job losses in tourism.

Surely Mr Hoodless cannot on the one hand rubbish the Navitus Bay estimated job creation numbers, while at the same time asking us to accept as fact his own organisation’s estimated tourism job loss numbers.

As I have finally given in to the temptation to comment on the proposed wind farm, I make one other comment regarding the visibility of the turbines from the coast and ask supporters and objectors to consider the distance to the wind farm from the shore at Bournemouth and Poole and compare it to the identical distance along the coast from Mudeford to Sandbanks. I have found this idea quite helpful when trying to imagine the visual impact of the wind farm from the coast.

I look forward with interest to finally learning the fate of this exciting project.
