A TWO-storey training pavilion is already taking shape at AFC Bournemouth less than a week after planning permission was granted.

The build, based in the eastern corner of the site adjacent to the player's car park and adjoining the training pitches, is set to feature a range of facilities for players, including changing rooms, meeting rooms, a pool, therapy suites, a lounge and a cafeteria.

Although a building of the pavilion's size could take up to two years to construct from scratch, the pavilion at the site is a modular build, meaning it can be constructed quickly.

It is expected to be fully ready by the end of July.

The structure will be clad in silver-grey aluminium panels decorated with club signage.

Permission was also granted for privacy screens, which will be constructed around the training pitches to prevent 'football espionage'.

A spokesperson for the Cherries said: "These are likely to be in place by the time the team return from the USA after playing a pre-season friendly against Philadelphia Union."

However, developers have not yet started to construct a broadcasting cabin, TV studio and boiler room needed for under-pitch heating.

All of the plans for revamped training facilities at Dean Court were unanimously backed by borough councillors last week.

The proposals received the support of councillors sitting on the planning committee.

The Cherries have a short period of time to bring the Goldsands Stadium up to the strict standards required in the top flight of English football since their historic promotion in April.

As a result, the three planning applications were fast-tracked through the system, although the 21-day statutory consultation period was followed to allow residents to have their say.

However, councillors implemented a number of conditions, including the installation of bird boxes to compensate for the loss of natural habitats, and improvements to the appearance of the privacy screening around the training pitches.

Speaking after the meeting, council leader Cllr John Beesley, said: "These are exciting times for the club and the whole area as we look forward to welcoming visitors from some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs to our town next season.”
