A SUMMERTIME festival held with the aim of promoting the best of Kinson has been heralded as "very positive" by organisers.

The first-ever Festival of Music took place at the weekend, with live performances, stalls, marching bands and more.

Members of the Kinson Events Team decided to organise a large-scale event for the area with the aim of creating community spirit, and are already starting work on next year's show.

Bob Wright, chair of the Kinson Business Forum, said: "It went really well.

"It's the first time this has ever taken place, so there's still lots for us to learn, but there's generally been some really positive feedback. We've already booked a few of the acts to come back again next year."

The free event featured a wide range of performances from musicians, as well as fairground rides and a bouncy castle for children.

Members of the Kinson Conservative Club also brought forward their beer festival to the same weekend in order to make it part of the festival.

Organisers decided to put on a weekend-long festival following the success of two well-attended Christmas events and a service at the war memorial over the last two years.

Bob said: "We really wanted to give people the chance to see the best of Kinson, including Pelhams Park and the green.

"We hoped that visitors would see how beautiful the area is. Our previous events in the last two years were very popular, and the festival gave us a chance to create a new event for people living in the area."

And he said the festival's success has even encouraged residents to consider joining the event's team, initially set up by members of the Kinson Business Forum.

"One of the best things is that people have been looking into joining the team," Bob said.

"We want councillors, residents and traders to all come together to ensure the team can go on and on in the years to come, so people asking how to get involved has been a very positive outcome."

The next Kinson Festival of Music is planned for July 2 and 3 2016.
