A music festival, a steam fair and a volleyball festival are just some of the events going on across the area this weekend.

The legendary Burton Scout Group carnival will be coming to Christchurch on Saturday. A parade leaving Burton Primary school at 1.30pm will go to the recreation ground in Martins Hill Lane. The fun filled day will include a dog show, lambs, vintage cars, tractors, steam engines and much more. The event has been organised by the 8th Christchurch Burton Scout Group.
Local residents are being given the chance to go behind the scenes at Poole Hospital’s open day this Saturday. The day offers the chance to find out more about the hospital, have basic health checks, as well as being able to brush up on your first aid skills. Family activities will include face-painting, hook a duck, quizzes and an opportunity to explore the inside of an ambulance. The free event will take place from 10am-2.30pm on the main site at Poole Hospital.
Further to the successes of previous events, Kinson Business Forum are now launching the two-day Kinson Festival of Music. The event will feature music performances and workshops on two stages from 11am-6pm, food, stalls, children’s attractions, marching bands and many more exciting activities! Local schools and bands are lining up to perform, bringing the very best musical talent to Kinson. Cherry Tree Nursery are also celebrating their 25th anniversary and Kinson Conservative Club has brought its beer festival forward to coincide with the event.
Solar Independence Day is the UK’s annual solar celebration showcasing solar homes, solar schools, commercial solar rooftops and solar farms. Primrose Solar are inviting anyone who is interested to come and visit Race Solar Farm near Lytchett Matravers on Saturday, to see how sheep can graze under the panels and how solar provides clean, green electricity. The event will take place from 11am-3pm and car parking is available near the entrance but visitors are advised to wear closed-toe footwear while on the site.
A charity fundraising event will take place this Saturday, in aid of the neonatal intensive care unit at Poole Hospital. The event held at The Junction Sports and Leisure Centre, is set to be opened by Harry Redknapp at 4pm and will finish at 8.30pm. There will be lots of fun activities for the family including a bouncy castle, fancy dress competition, sumo suits and lots more, which are by donation on the day. A disco, games and food are included in the ticket price of £6.00.
The King’s Park Steam Fair is taking place this weekend for a new event, promising a weekend of fun for everyone. From steam engines, classic cars and tractors to games, rides and craft activities, there is sure to be something for the whole family. The show will be open from 10am-5pm and there is no charge for entry, although they will be fundraising for Help for Heroes and any donations will be greatly received.
The largest Junior Beach Volleyball Festival in the UK is taking place this weekend on Sandbanks beach for the 21st time. The event attracts nearly 500 competitors over the two days and entry is free to spectators to come along and support the UK’s young volleyball talent. This year the organisers are also proud to announce that they will be hosting the UK’s first ever UK Beach Paravolley (sitting) Competition.
The 27th annual Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride is being held on Sunday, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. There are several categories of race with the 100 mile route starting from 7.30am-8am, and then staggered starts for routes from 60 miles to 10 miles, thereafter up to 10am. The event is organised and run entirely by volunteers, so all of the money that is raised in sponsorship goes directly to where it is needed. The event, sponsored by Sunseeker International and Primera, is starting at Corfe Mullen Recreation Ground and will cost the rider between £25-£30 to enter.
The Poole Bay Walk will take place this Sunday as a sponsored walk of 12 or 15 km, raising money for a charity that you support. Registration is £10 and all the money goes towards your chosen charity. The walk will start at Baiter Park at 9am and is followed by a day full of fun for the whole family. The day is free entry from 11am-4pm with refreshments available across the day. There will be music, entertainment, bouncy castles and many more exciting attractions for a great day out.
Running since 1993, the Bournemouth International Triathlon is back making a splash on Sunday. The long running event organised by Offbeat Events, includes a 1500m swim starting on the beach, a 38.6km fast bike course towards Ringwood and a 10km run course along the seafront promenade. Entries have now closed but it will make a great day out to go and watch with the whole family.
A Big Beach Picnic Day for the National Trust takes place on Saturday with events at Studland and on Brownsea Island. Events at beaches include sand sculpture, beach arts, watersports, barbecues and rock pool safaris, a scone festival and more. The event marks the Coastal Festival 2015. People are invited to take their own food or head to the Villano Cafe where there will be live music between 11am and 2pm and an array of scones and cakes to choose from.
Join the rangers of Stour Valley Nature Reserve and the RSPB to go on a marathon wildlife safari on Sunday. Visitors will be encouraged to join in with a host of searches for birds, invertebrates, mammals and plants, starting with a dawn chorus walk at 6am and finishing with a bat walk at 9pm. Join Hattie Miles for a Wonderful Westbourne walkingtalk on Saturday morning. Starts outside Lavish Life cafe in Westbourne arcade at 10.30am. You will find out about writers, actors, pop stars, scientists, a British prime minister and much more who have been connected with Westbourne. Hattie will also be hosting a Romance and Scandal in Bournemouth walkingtalk on Sunday, which starts outside Flirt cafe bar at 10.45am. You’ll discover some heart-warming love stories and some juicy scandals on this enjoyable circular guided walk. No need to book, just turn up. Broadstone Family Fun Day and Community Picnic is on Sunday. There will be a donkey derby, classic cars, dog show, bouncy castle, stalls and games and a BBQ. Takes place on Broadstone Recreation Ground off Lower Blandford Road between 12noon and 4.30pm.
