TIME is running out to enter this year’s Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride.

To support the final call for entries, Sunseeker, which is sponsoring the event, organised for a static bike to be put on top of the flybridge of a Sunseeker 86 Yacht.

Sally Collins, a volunteer helping to organise the ride on July 5, was on the bike cycling in the sunshine as the luxury yacht took her around Poole Harbour.

Bryan Jones, Sunseeker’s marketing manager, said: “We’re hoping that by working together and raising awareness of the event we can get our highest ever turnout of 1,000 participants for 2015 with a target of raising £100,000”

The Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride was started by Peter Smith-Nicholls in 1989 - the year after he cycled from John O’Groats to Land’s End following the death of his father from cancer. That first event saw 42 people take part, raising £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“We are all affected by cancer," said Mr Smith-Nicholls. "There are two million people living with cancer in the UK and these people don’t just need medical help but also practical, emotional and financial support.

“Macmillan not only support patients, but also helps carers, families and communities. They guide people through the system and support them every step of the way. Crucially, Macmillan supports the one in four cancer patients that aren’t fortunate enough to have a support network of family and friends.

“The work that Macmillan does is simply invaluable and if you can support it by entering the Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride, or by sponsoring a rider, please do; it really does make all the difference.”

This year’s Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride starts in Corfe Mullen on Sunday, July 5, with the option of 10, 25, 38, 48, 60 or 100-mile routes.
