A MAN travelling on a Ryanair flight from Bournemouth to Tenerife was pinned down on an airport apron and detained after becoming aggressive on board.

The drama happened on the weekly 7am Ryanair flight from the airport at Hurn to the popular Canary Islands resort on Tuesday.

It is thought that the man was behaving inappropriately towards women on the service and also got into a fight on board.

Keiran Campbell, from Hamworthy, was on the plane.

He said that he believed that the man was travelling alone and was aged in his late 20s or early 30s.

“He still would not calm down when police took him off the plane,” said Keiran.

As Keiran’s pictures show, the man was held on the asphalt at the airport by Spanish police.

Keiran added: “He carried on kicking off at airport security, as you can see from pictures, and he passed out in the toilet after trying to fight another passenger, who I believe was sticking up for the girls. The police came onto the flight after we arrived and carried him off.

“I believe the man came down from Portsmouth and spent the night in the airport, as I overheard him talking with a woman on the counter in duty free.”

An eyewitness who posted on the Daily Echo's Facebook page said: "He barged his way through people and locked himself in the loo. He eventually came out and the cabin crew moved to the back. He then kicked off again asualting cabin crew and was pushed right to the back. The cabin crew stood between him until we landed."

A spokesman for Ryanair said: “The crew of this flight from Bournemouth to Tenerife (June 30) requested police assistance after a passenger became disruptive in-flight.

“The aircraft landed normally and police removed and detained this individual upon arrival at Tenerife.

“We will not tolerate unruly or disruptive behaviour at any time and we sincerely apologised to other customers for any inconvenience caused.

“The safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority. This is now a matter for local police.”

The spokesman added that the man had been given a lifetime ban from travelling with Ryanair.

It is not known what happened to the man after he was detained. The Daily Echo contacted the Spanish police, the Guardia Civil, but had not received a response at the time of going to press.
