FANS of the James Bond and Hammer horror movies had a chance to meet two of their favourite stars up close.

An event at Chaplin’s Cellar Bar in Boscombe brought together Martine Beswick and Caroline Munro, each of whom has two Bond movies on their CV.

Martine was one of the fighting gypsy girls in 1963’s From Russia With Love and was given the bigger part of Paula Caplan in Thunderball two years later.

Caroline is known for the 1977 Roger Moore hit The Spy Who Loved Me, but also had a tiny part in the 1967 comedy take on Casino Royale, which starred Peter Sellers, David Niven and Woody Allen.

Around 15-20 guests paid to have lunch with the two actresses, have pictures signed and attend a question and answer session in the Christchurch Road venue.

Jayne Crimin, who organised the event, said: “It was wonderful. They loved the venue – I knew they would.

“They had lunch out in the garden and then they came back to do a Q&A in the cellar.

“The Q&A was amazing. They showed clips from various Bond films as well.”

During the chat, the actresses told how they had both been considered for the part of Sister Hyde in the 1972 Hammer film Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde – but Caroline had decided not to pursue it as she refused to do nudity.

It turned out that Chaplin’s owner Harry Seccombe had a photo on the pub’s wall of the gypsy fighting scene in From Russia With Love.

“Just out of sheer chance, there’s a photo of Martine on the wall in Chaplin’s and they didn’t even know it was there,” said Jayne.

Both actresses enjoyed their visit to Bournemouth – and Caroline was seen snapping up some bargains in Boscombe.

“They loved the Chine Hotel and I’ve taken them in to Boscombe High Street. They loved the arcade and the shops,” said Jayne.

“Caroline loves her charity shops and Boscombe high street is full of them, so she was in and out of the charity shops. She does talks on cruises and she bought herself an evening dress.”
