THE parents of murder victim Nic Ormerod were the victims of a horrific knife attack in their own home.

Nic's dad, David, suffered terrible leg injuries during the frenzied attack and wife Jane sustained painful injuries to her hands as she fought off the knifeman.

The brave couple have revealed the shocking details of what happened to them and have voiced their determination to continue to fight knife crime.

Jane's charity, TYBUK, was formed after Nic was stabbed to death in Boscombe in 2011.

The couple were at home in Cranleigh Road, Southbourne on the evening of Tuesday June 2 when the knifeman entered their home.

"He lunged at David's chest and forced him to the floor" said Jane. "David ended up under the table trying to get away from him and he was sawing at his leg like a piece of meat.

"I just kept grabbing him and pulling him away and the knife sliced across my finger. I screamed that I was going to call the police and he left.

"There was blood everywhere and I was in total shock. I think David could have bled to death from his injuries and I'm sure he would have killed him if I hadn't been here."

David, who has since undergone surgery for deep wounds to his leg, added: "If it wasn't for Jane I would definitely be dead. He tried to stab me in the chest first but I managed to grab a clock off the wall and hit the knife with it.

"He threw me back and carried on lunging at me - I couldn't believe what was happening."

TYBUK (Turn Your Back UK) urges people not to carry knives. Since Nic's death Jane has thrown herself into charity work, speaking to youth groups, providing educational packages and addressing prisoners about the consequences of their actions.

"I am determined to continue with the charity and now feel I can add even more to it" said Jane.

"Not only was my son stabbed to death but I have watched my husband being attacked in the same way. It has opened all the wounds and made me think about what Nic went through. It makes me more determined to do what I can to prevent knife crime."

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and has since been released on police bail until early July pending further inquiries. He and the victims are said to be known to each other.
