DETECTIVES investigating the death of a 94-year-old woman in Poole believe it was not suspicious.

The pensioner's body was found in a flat at Turbary Court in Douglas Close, Upton, and police were called to the scene at around 11am on Friday, June 26.

The death was initially treated as unexplained and an investigation was launched by detectives from Bournemouth CID.

Detective Inspector Joe Williams said: "Officers were initially investigating whether the woman had been the victim of a theft in the days before she died.

"Following extensive enquiries carried out on Friday and over the weekend, we have concluded that a theft has not occurred and the 94-year-old woman sadly died peacefully in her sleep overnight Thursday or Friday morning.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank residents in Douglas Close and all the members of public who assisted with our investigation."

DI Williams said a post mortem investigation had been carried out but was inconclusive, and that further testing has been requested.

The woman’s next of kin have been informed.
