THERE were celebrations as a newly extended children's play and activity garden was officially opened to the public.
A disused bowling green at Winton Recreation Ground has now been transformed into a nature and sensory inspired space, fantastic for all children including those with special educational needs. It will also provide much-needed outdoor space for local cub, scout, brownie and guide groups.
Mayor of Bournemouth Cllr John Adams cut the ribbon to cheers from Linwood and St Luke's school pupils.
Cllr Lawrence Williams, cabinet member for tourism, leisure and the arts, said: "This is fantastic news for Winton and will really enhance the area by making it an even more appealing place to visit for all the family.
"The new activity and play garden is really impressive and will make such a difference to young people and will benefit those children with special educational needs."
Winton play garden secured the investment after winning the People's Millions contest on ITV Meridian.
