'SEX and sushi' will be among the treats on the menu at a new food event coming to Bournemouth.

Dorset Food and Drink goes to the theatre will take place at the historic Shelley Theatre in Beechwood Avenue, Boscombe, on Saturday, June 20.

The food producer organisation says that it will feature some of Dorset’s finest artisan and specialist producers, a special tea party of the screening of the Japanese comedy film Tampopo, which takes a satirical look at the relationship between food and sex and is famous for its ‘sex and sushi’ scenes.

The event is a collaboration between Dorset Food and Drink, The Pig hotel group and its chef director James Golding, Comins Tea and Screen Bites Food Film Festival.

The day starts with some of the county’s leading food and drink producers setting up their stalls in the restored Victorian theatre.

As well as the chance to taste and buy wonderful preserves, cakes, bakes, chocolates, cheese and more, the producers will also be talking about their products and sharing some of their secrets.

Those taking part will include Ajar Of, The Baking Bird, Barbara’s Kitchen, Chocolate Arthouse, Dorset Pies, From Dorset With Love, Jurassic Spring, Olives Et Al, Southbourne Ales and Wobbly Cottage.

Starting at noon, there will be four sittings of a very special afternoon tea party in the studio.

That will be hosted by James and there will be specialist teas prepared and served by Rob and Michele Comins and cakes and bakes from The Pig’s kitchens. The tea is a bookable event, raising funds for James’s chosen Chefs Adopt a School charity.

After the market and the last of the tea sittings the theatre bar will remain open, serving Dorset drinks, and Japanese chef Teruko Chagrin will be offering sushi before the evening Screen Bites film.

Spokeswoman Katherine Wright said: “Dorset Food & Drink is very proud of what we can offer and wanted to showcase and bring a flavour of Dorset produce to the area around Bournemouth.

“Running alongside the food market is the unique opportunity to have an afternoon tea with The Pig Group under Chef Director James Golding and Comins Tea House, raising funds for the Chef's 'Adopt a School Charity'.

“The finale is the Screen Bites showing in this quirky venue with a Dorset Bar and more Dorset goodies.”
