The council is currently run by the Conservatives with 32 seats against the Liberal Democrats' 26

There is also one independent and one vacant seat in the council chamber at New Forest District Council's headquarters at Appletree Court, Lyndhurst.

Current council chairman, Boldre resident Cllr David Scott (Con, Bramshaw, Copythorne North and Minstead ward) is not standing for election.
