A CHILDREN'S charity is set to benefit from almost £100,000 which has been raised in part by a West Moors woman on a charity challenge.

Sue Dodd, 55, who works for Dorset Police's major crime team, pedalled over 300-miles across Madagascar in five days to build funds for Wave 105's Cash for Kids Appeal.

She has raised a massive £7,500 for the charity, which helps disabled and disadvantaged children, along with those who have been victims of abuse or neglect, to reach their full potential. Collectively, the 27 cyclists who took part in the cycle have raised £98,000 for the cause.

Sue said: "It was absolutely amazing and such a great group of people. It was really hard work and more hilly than we expected, but it was such a great experience and a good opportunity to see the area."

She said that while on the challenge, the group saw lemurs in the rainforest, took in the seascape of the Indian Ocean and visited a village school, where the children sang their national anthem.

Sue told Daily Echo that she signed up for the Madagascar challenge in memory of her husband, John, who died in May 2014, with whom she ran a children's charity for 15 years called Tender Loving Care.

Asked how she feels about completing the tough challenge, she said: "I am proud of the circumstances in which I did it and I'm moved that I could achieve it, as it was far out of my comfort zone."

Mark Collins, Wave 105's morning presenter, who led the group, said: "Without a doubt this was the toughest of the Wave 105 Cash for Kids challenges I've ever done. It was harder than I anticipated, but I was riding with a great bunch of people so we all spurred one another on.

"Of course the best bit of all is the fantastic amount of money raised for our charity, which is more than £98,000.

"We are overwhelmed by the support and this money will go towards helping many disadvantaged, less fortunate children across Dorset and the rest of the Wave 105 listener region."
