INSPIRATIONAL people working with disabled children and adults were recognised for their commitment at the charity's second Thank You Awards.

Diverse Abilities hosted the event at Kinson Community Centre, where awards were presented for categories including Employee Achievement, Volunteer Team of the Year, OutstandingVoluntary Contribution, Individual Fundraiser of the Year and to the staff member and team who had gone "above and beyond".

The charity's ambassador, British bobsleigh medallist Anya Kay, attended the event and presented awards to three adults supported by Diverse Abilities who were shortlisted in the ‘Individual the charity supports who’s achieved something remarkable’ category.

Winners included Dean Daniels, finance manager at Diverse Abilities, in the Individual Fundraiser category, for raising more than £12,500 by fundraising for a skydive he is undertaking in June as part of the charity’s 60 Skydivers Day.

Barclays won the Corporate Supporter award due to its support over the past year, volunteering for projects refurbishing the charity’s services and taking part in events, such as the Dragon Boat Race and Harbourview Abseil.

A special award was presented to Runton Road residents for the money raised through their Christmas lights and also five adults the charity supports received a badge for their fundraising efforts through collections within the community.

Charlotte Curtis, the charity’s head of business resources, said: “We see the great job that our staff do day-in day-out, how committed our volunteers and supporters are to the charity and the achievements that the people we support accomplish and therefore wanted to express how thankful we are to them all for being such inspirational people.”
