RESIDENTS are invited to Bournemouth’s mayor-making ceremony today to see Cllr John Adams formally elected to the role.

The ceremony at the Pavilion Theatre will start at 11.15am and will see Cllr Adams invested with the badge and chain of office.

Cllr Adams has represented the Strouden Park ward since 2010 but was first elected as a Bournemouth councillor in 1973, representing East Cliff and Springbourne.

He stood successfully in three elections before resigning as a councillor and not standing in the 1983 elections.

He will make a speech during today’s ceremony and will announce the charities he has decided to support during his Mayoral year. He will also be attending Bournemouth’s annual civic service at St Peter’s Church on Sunday, starting at 10.30am.

He will lead the civic procession from the Pavilion at 10.20am along Westover Road to the church to meet the Rector, the Reverend Dr Ian Terry, who will be leading the service.
