A NUMBER of festival-goers were treated after taking drugs at Bournemouth 7s this weekend.

Around eight people received medical treatment for the side effects of drugs, with at least one person taken to Royal Bournemouth Hospital for further treatment.

Their condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

Police now say it is not known what the drug was, but an earlier release posted on their website, said it was ecstasy.

Initially Dorset Police said 'a number of people' had been taken to hospital from the festival, but a spokesperson for South West Ambulance Service confirmed they had transported one patient, who was unconscious, to Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

They were called to the festival ground at 10.07pm, she said.

The festival, which sold out, is taking place at Chapel Gate over Bank Holiday weekend, and was expected to attract more than 30,000 people.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "During the evening of Saturday, Dorset Police was made aware that a number of people were taken to hospital after attending the Bournemouth 7s Festival.

"It was reported that all had taken illegal substances. Their condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

"Officers are investigating the circumstances.

"Dorset Police and the organisers would like to warn people attending the festival not to take any illegal substances."

A spokesperson later said around eight people had been treated after suffering the side effects of of drugs.

In a tweet in the early hours of Sunday, @Bournemouth7s said: "We are concerned that some of our attendees have reacted badly to an unknown drug they may have taken. Be careful and look out for each other."

Anyone with information about anyone having offered such substances at the event should contact Dorset Police on 101.
