VISITORS to Durlston Castle will be able to enjoy photographs showcasing the wildlife and landscapes of Purbeck this month.

The new exhibition, by wildlife photographer Julian Sawyer, is called 'Ten Days in May': Purbeck Footprints Wildlife Photography Exhibition'.

Julian said: "Photography has always been something that has interested me but it was only with the onset of digital cameras that I could afford to get serious.

"Nature and its place in the landscape is another passion and the two interests are tailor-made for each other.

"Recording what I see, being able to show others what we have around us and encouraging them to discover this for themselves is really what Purbeck Footprints is all about."

Julian moved to Purbeck with his young family in 1999, after living away from the south coast for a number of years.

"It was a big decision for us," he said. "But we quickly fell in love with this place and all it has to offer. I spend as much time as I can wandering its many paths and trails and my camera is never far away."

The exhibition is being held at Durlston Castle's Fine Foundation Gallery.

A Durlston Castle spokesman describes the Isle of Purbeck as one of the "richest areas in the country for wildlife."

The spokesman added: "Julian's evocative and sometimes humorous photographs explore this extraordinary landscape, getting 'up close and personal' with the astonishing and beautiful wildlife in this very special place.

"Enjoy the pictures, discover the stories and techniques behind the work, but prints or cards to take home and meet the photographer, who will be on hand throughout to offer advice."

The exhibition is open daily, between 11am-4.30pm, until May 20.
