The Met Office says Wednesday will see sunny intervals developing after a cloudy start, while Thursday could be unsettled. The outlook for beyond this is for showers although drier and brighter conditions are expected for the south.

Bournemouth Wheels Festival will be heading to town on Friday May 29. The three-day event, now in its second year, will offer something for everyone with Monster Trucks, freewheel stunts, supercars and even a funfair. Most of the action will be taking place along the beach between West Beach and Boscombe Pier - although the supercars will be on show at the BIC – plus a pop-up fringe even will be in Southbourne on Saturday featuring music and entertainment. There will be circus and hula hoop workshops in the Lower Gardens between 5-9pm on Friday and Saturday. On Friday night, there will be a FREE Night Glow bike ride for all the family leaving from outside the Mirimar Hotel on East Overcliff Drive at 9.15pm. Everyone is urged to dress up in bright colours and deck out their bikes with lights and glowing accessories.

A new free exhibition telling the story of Poole Lifeboat Station’s 150-year history is on at Poole Museum. It tells the story of how volunteer crews have been helping those in trouble at sea since 1865. The exhibition runs May 16-August 31, from 10am-5pm, Monday to Saturday, and midday-5pm on Sundays.

Discover coastal wildlife with a beach combing trail at Brownsea Island. The event is free but normal boat crossing and entry charges apply. Takes place daily between 10.30am and 4pm from Saturday, May 23 to Sunday May 31. Booking is essential, call the Brownsea Island Property Office on 01202 707744. Mini beast safaris and special bug hotel workshops will also be taking place but you’ll need to book your place by calling the Brownsea Island Property Office or emailing brownseaisland@nationaltrust.org.uk.

A free self-led Maritime Trail will be running at Poole Museum over half-term week between Saturday May 23 and Sunday, May 31.

To coincide with the 70th anniversary of VE Day, The Tank Museum will be offering themed talks and activities related to the stories of the Allied victories across Europe over half-term. The museum will also be hosting a 1940s garden party where you can take part in creating flags, bunting and other crafts for the occasion. There will be an opportunity to climb in one of the Main Battle Tanks, try on replica uniforms and take part in fun-filled family activity trails. Plus, you can also see tanks in action every weekday at 1pm. Open 10am to 5pm, normal admission charges apply.

A sing-along version of popular Disney film Frozen comes to Lighthouse on Wednesday. Lyrics will be on screen to help you sing along and a live host will show you how to use your free prop bag . Dressing up is recommended. Family tickets are available at £46 for four or £33 for three people. There are two performances; one at 11am and another at 3pm. For ages 5 plus. Make your own bee or butterfly hat at Upton Country Park on Wednesday. There are two sessions to choose from; one between 10.30am and 12noon and another running 1pm to 2.30pm. Entry £3 each or £2 for RSPB members.

The Russell-Cotes Art Gallery will be hosting a children’s poster design workshop inspired by their own Alphonse Mucha exhibition. Artist and tutor Kate Salwya will be exploring Art Nouveau colours, lettering, stencils and patterns. Costs £12 and a session will take place between 10am and 1pm on Thursday.

Little ones can learn how to build a den in a free event at Upton Country Park on Thursday. Takes place 10.30am to 11.30 am and booking is essential. 

Find out all about moths and butterflies and make your own hat with at Stour Valley Nature Reserve between 11am and 3pm on Friday, May 29. No booking required. Suitable for children aged 5+ and costs £2 per child.

The Travelling Planetarium visits Oakdale Library on Friday, May 29. There are four sessions available; 10.15am, 11.30am, 2.15pm or 3.30pm. Booking is essential. 

The Green Community Fair comes to Poole Park on Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31. You can find music, free activities and workshops from 11am, plus a children’s parade led by Green Unityfairy.

There will be colourful stalls, street food and music at Shaftesbury Festival on Sunday, May 31. Takes place between 10am and 4pm and it’s a free event.

A circus-themed family fun day will be taking place at the Goldsands Stadium on Sunday, May 31. The stadium will be opening its doors between 11am and 4pm with a host of activities on offer for children including zorbing, a bouncy castle, face painting, a climbing wall, magic shows and circus workshops. Plus, there will also be the chance to get an exclusive tour of AFC Bournemouth’s home ground. Stadium Tours must be pre booked in order to guarantee a space on the day.
