A GROUP of travellers who set up camp at the Dolphin Swimming Pool car park have left the site.

Around a dozen caravans and motorhomes are thought to have moved onto the car park in Poole town centre on Friday evening.

Staff at the leisure centre, off Kingland Road, said the group left the swimming pool car park at around 2pm on Sunday.

The travellers are believed to be part of the same group that were evicted from Baiter Park on Friday afternoon.

It's understood a further two caravans remain on site at the Beach Road car park in Branksome Chine, close to Branksome Beach and Canford Cliffs, which the council confirmed it had provided a temporary toilet and waste bags for.

A spokesperson for Borough of Poole said that waste bags will be provided on the site in accordance with council policy in order to reduce any contamination to the land.

Bailiffs were brought in to evict a group of 11 caravans and three motorhomes from the Harbourside Park at Baiter Park, off Catalina Drive, on Friday after Borough of Poole successfully obtained an eviction order from the courts.

Yesterday, Cllr Mark Howell, ward councillor for Poole town centre, said: "Officers have dealt efficiently with the travellers at Baiter and I am sure that they will deal with the illegal encampment at Dolphin Swimming Pool car park in the same way.

"However, the council is confined by the constraints of the law as to how soon they can move the encampment on and I have confidence that officers will act as quickly as possible to do so."
