POLICE are appealing for anyone with CCTV footage of a bank robber to come forward.

Officers were called to Barclays in Wimborne Road, Winton, just after 10.30am on Tuesday.

Dorset Police say the robber, who was wearing a distinctive motorbike helmet, threatened staff before fleeing with a quantity of cash. He is believed to have left on foot along Bryanstone Road.

It is thought he may have then entered a P-reg vehicle, possibly a silver, white or grey Renault Megane or Citroen Picasso.

Yesterday CCTV images of the suspect were released but the force is now apealing for anyone with additional CCTV footage taken at the time of the robbery to come forward.

No arrests have yet been made.

Detective Constable Tim Davis, of Bournemouth CID, said: “I am appealing to any members of the public, particularly taxi drivers, motorcyclists or cyclists who have CCTV footage from Winton between 10am and 11am on Tuesday 5 May 2015 to contact me.

“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have captured the suspect wearing a distinctive motorcycle helmet or a light-coloured P-reg vehicle, possibly a Renault Laguna, Megane or Citreoen Picasso, on a dashboard camera or mobile phone.

“Witnesses or anyone with information should call me on 101.

“All calls will be treated in strict confidence.”

Officers carried out a search of the area, assisted by the police helicopter, but were unable to locate the man or vehicle.

No one was injured in the incident.

The suspect is described as white, between five foot eight and five foot ten inches tall, in his early 20s and was wearing a black jumper, blue jeans, gloves, black trainers, and a red, white and black patterned motorcycle helmet.

The Bournemouth bank, directly opposite Scissors hair salon, was cordoned off to allow officers to carry out their inquiries.

Kerry Furlong, manager of Scissors, said: “It’s a bit scary as we have to take money to that bank. We didn’t think something like this would happen around here – it seems quite serious.”

Deborah Couch, who works as a telephonist for the Winton branch of United Taxis, said one of her colleagues rushed to ask if she had seen what had happened as police arrived on the scene.

“I was on my break at the time so didn’t see the police arriving but I heard all the sirens and the helicopter.

“I’m very surprised and very shocked. This area is so busy so the robber must have been desperate. Let’s hope they catch him.”

But Lily, who works at the tattoo studio White Flame, said it was only a matter of time before an incident like this happened in the area.

“It’s not a massive surprise as there have been quite a few robberies recently. There was one near our doorstep in Wallisdown and one in New Milton not too long ago, too.”
