THOUSANDS of people are expected to pack out the inaugural Poole Harbour Boat Show next weekend, as last-minute preparations for the maritime showcase continue.

The event, organised by Poole Harbour Commissioners (PHP), promises a large array of yachts and boats on display, including two tall ships berthed at Poole Quay that will be especially opened-up for public view.

This free public event takes place on the quay and at PHP's award-winning marina, Poole Quay Boat Haven. It will also include a variety of marine-related businesses, family-focused entertainment and other activities.

Speaking about the show at the launch of Poole's 'Summertime in the South' programme, Poole Tourism chairman Bruce Grant-Braham said: "It is fantastic to see new sponsors and events join the programme, whilst working with partners such as PHC to develop their own events such as the boat show.

"It shows great confidence in the town."

One of the show's main sponsors, Sunseeker, recently unveiled the line-up for its live music stage. This stage will be a central feature of the two-day event.

Confirmed acts include popular skiffle band Quinns Quinney who will headline on the Saturday evening.

The full Sunseeker Sessions line-up will feature a mix of rock, jazz, blues, folk, shanty and indie music, with local acts Empire Affair, Alex Roberts Duo, The Bonsai Pirates, The Dorset Wrecks and Th Ace Trio scheduled to appear.

PHP chief executive Jim Stewart said: "We are excited that Sunseeker will have a presence at our first Poole Harbour Boat Show, they are such a big name in the marine industry and having a well-known local company support the event is fantastic."

The tall ships on show will be the Stavros S Niarchos and the Pelican.

A show spokesman said: "The weekend will be packed with free live entertainment from local bands and shanty groups plus a spectacular firework display."

The Poole Harbour Boat Show takes place on May 9 & 10.
