EYE-CATCHING signage promoting this year’s Wheels Festival has been unveiled at the entrance to Bournemouth town centre.

After a highly successful inaugural festival in 2014, the wheel-shaped creation displaying the event’s logo has again been placed near St Paul’s Roundabout – much like the jet during the air festival – to welcome visitors.

This May’s festival is being billed as bigger and better than last year, with the promise of more monster truck action in a an arena twice the size, as well as a string of other adrenalin-fuelled demonstrations across the three days.

The festival’s primary sponsor is the Coastal Business Improvement District (BID) and chairman Paul Clarke said he is proud and excited to see the event return.

“We are keen to see it grow to fulfil its potential as one of the town’s major annual events,” he added.

“While Wheels attracts a huge number of day visitors to the town, the BID sees one of its key attributes as providing yet another reason for people to come and stay in Bournemouth for a long weekend.

“The move away from the bank holiday weekend itself is one that the accommodation providers within the Coastal BID encouraged.

“This year we are also supporting a new festival event in Southbourne as we work with the Southbourne-on-Sea Business Association and Bournemouth Tourism to help spread the benefits of this event to new areas within the town.”

And Des Simmons, chairman of the Bournemouth Tourism Management Board, added: “The reason we provide such world class entertainment like Bournemouth Wheels Festival is because, as a town, we want to offer visitors and residents the opportunity to have a world class experience in Bournemouth.

“The Bournemouth Tourism Management Board are focusing on three main areas to achieve this: upgrading the quality and range of the experience; everyone pulling together for our common goal; and maintaining and building upon our strong reputation. The Bournemouth Wheels sits perfectly into these three areas and is an event we are all very proud of.”

The second Bournemouth Wheels Festival rolls into town between Friday, May 29 and Sunday, May 31.
