AFC Bournemouth will celebrate their historic promotion with an open top bus parade on Bank Holiday Monday, it has been announced this evening.

The Cherries will mark their Premier League status – which they secured with a 3-0 win over Bolton on Monday night – by showing appreciation for the support the town has shown Eddie Howe’s squad.

Parades to celebrate promotions from Leagues One and Two in recent years have seen thousands of fans take to the streets and turn the route into a sea of red and black.

The route and times for checkpoints on the journey will be confirmed later this week.

“Eddie, Jason, the players and myself have gone on record numerous times to thank the fans for their support,” chairman Jeff Mostyn said.

“The backing we have received home and away has been truly incredible and the fans have played their part in an unforgettable season.

“It is only fitting that the coaches and players get the opportunity to show their appreciation and we are looking forward to celebrating an incredible achievement with thousands and thousands of supporters.”

Chief executive of Bournemouth Council Tony Williams added: “We are delighted to be able to support and facilitate AFC Bournemouth’s promotion parade.
“This is a great and truly fitting way to recognise the club’s monumental achievements and a day for supporters to come together, celebrate, enjoy the atmosphere and share in the success.”

Barring a highly-unlikely swing in goal difference in the final game of the season, Cherries will mix it with football’s elite next year for the first time in their history.

It is an incredible turnaround for the club, which was staring extinction in the face less than a decade ago.
