POLICE are investigating after an allegedly abandoned car was discovered having crashed into some metal gates on a road in Highcliffe last night.

It was reported to Dorset Police at 8.53am this morning, but the caller mentioned that the vehicle had been left there after becoming embedded in the gate, which they first noticed at 11.30pm on Stanley Road, off Lymington Road.

PC Andrew Morton from the Mudeford and Highcliffe Safer Neighbourhood Team, tweeted on his @echocharlie1871 Twitter account to say that the silver Ford Fiesta had been seized and will be taken to the forensics team at Dorset Police.

The vehicle is registered to a man from Hampshire. The owner of the vehicle is not believed to have been located.

Enquiries will continue into the cause of the incident.
