A CYCLIST suffered serious head and back injuries in a collision with a pedestrian on a busy Bournemouth road.

The man was injured when the accident took place on Kinson Road just before 11.15am this morning.

Part of the road was closed, at its junction with Hyde Road, for several hours to allow police officers to gather evidence.

Now Dorset Police has appealed for witnesses to come forward with information.

Acting Sergeant Gareth Gosling said the injured man fell from his bike following the collision.

"We are not certain about what happened but it's a busy road so we are hoping someone saw the accident and can help us" he said.

Passers-by said the man was wearing a cycle helmet and was travelling at speed downhill when the collision occurred.

The cyclist, who lives in Bournemouth, is being treated in Poole Hospital and his injuries are described as serious but stable.

The pedestrian, believed to be a foreign student, was not hurt.

Information to Dorset Police on 101.
